January 2013 Junior race report
On Monday 28th January the rearranged time trials met at Lakeland Park for the remarkably popular uphill time trials. With the easing of the snow, the route up Manor Brow was reasonably well lit; reflective signs, markers and marshalls in yellow vests all went to make it a safe route for the young runners. With great luck, we managed to run in the one patch of dry weather that day!
As everyone registered, they were each given two start times, 15 minutes apart. They all hung around nervously, knowing that if they missed their times, disaster would strike. Each runner was called to the line with 30 seconds to spare, then “5-4-3-2-1-GO” and they were off. The next runner then moved up to the line.
The marshall at the top gave each a finish time and runners jogged or walked back down the hill, many trying to calculate how long it had taken. In the end the Timekeeper did it for them. There were many close times, so the second run was going to be tight!
After a brief rest, off they went again. Some starting fast, others pacing themselves from the beginning, but all arriving at the top of the hill heaving deep breaths in the cool night air.
After some quick calculations prizes were given (chocolate!) and we all went home happy.
Results, with times for each of the two legs:
Boys U11 - 1st George Carter-Denton 1’30”, 1’24”; 2nd Jacob Fell 1’30”, 1’29”
Girls U9 – 1st Jessica Harbourne 1’37”, 1’30”
Boys U9 – 1st Theo Coates 1’24”, 1’29”; 2nd Finn Turnbull 1’39”, 1’43”; 3rd Harrison Hays 1’41”, 1’43”
Girls U7 – Laura Coates 2’11”, 2’19”
Boys U7 – Tom Pye-Kendall 1’43”, 1’49”
Well done to all and a big thank you for the marshalls and timekeepers for turning out . |
